Mud Driving Tips

Preparation:

Before even thinking of going Off-Roading and especially Mud Off-Road driving,  you need to go ahead and check your Jeep.

Make sure all fluids are at normal levels, hoses are in good condition, all four tires are in good condition and that your spare tire is good. See that you have an air compressor to fill up your tires after you finish your trip, check all tire-changing instruments and secure any loose items on your Jeep. Also get to know if there is any cell phone signal in the area that you are going to travel. Most importantly, don’t drive alone and always make sure you have a tow vehicle on standby.

Off Road:

Once you start your Off-Road Mud adventure, put your vehicle in 4WD whenever you feel that you are entering an area requiring additional traction.

Lower your tire pressure slightly from time to time until you've found your comfort level while mud driving.

Look ahead over your hood and at both sides of your Jeep to ensure that you will be able stay on top of most upcoming obstacles. However, be careful not to put your head outside the window; it’s too dangerous.

Always hold the steering wheel with two hands, with thumbs facing up - this will help you avoid any sudden rotation of the steering wheel.

Don’t drive too fast; doing so will only make it harder to control and steer your vehicle.

If you get stuck deep in the mud and the front and rear axles are on the ground don’t continue driving. Stop for a minute and step out of your vehicle to evaluate the situation. Find some boards to put below the tires and try to dig out a bit of dirt from just in front of the front tires. If you can’t get your vehicle out of the mud, wait for another vehicle to come along to pull you out slowly.

On the Road:

When your Off-Roading trip comes to an end, you have to make sure that you refill your tire with air. Do this before getting back on the road. Finally, make sure that there is no mud left over below your vehicle - this can be very dangerous for other vehicles on the road.

DRIVE HOME SAFE! UNTIL NEXT TIME...
